Emergency Response Teams Coming up in 2007 Radios with immediate home/office tsunami notification will be available for purchase once the system is configured. The radios can be plugged in with battery back-up for quick alerts, or can be portable to provide quick alerts directly to you. Emergency First Aid, Food Safe, and Canadian Disaster Animal Rescue Team trainings will be conducted throughout the year with the Westcoast ESS Team ERT will be hosting Emergency Operations Centre Levels 1, 2 & 3 for District of Tofino staff and other volunteers who are able to assist in a fast paced and detailed environment at the hub of emergency management. Members of the public are encouraged to come out participate for this training which will be free of charge. Dates to be advised. The District has applied for funding to equip the town with a series of tsunami sirens, the first siren will be in the Chesterman Beach area. The Provincial Emergency Program will be conducting a test of the notification system to responders March 29 with an opportunity to exercise our Emergency Social Services, Search and Rescue and Volunteer Fire Department volunteer groups. ERT will host a tsunami presentation complete with handouts and maps of the community including evacuation routes. Join us at the Community Hall March 29! Tsunami signage will be placed throughout the west coast and in town to inform residents and tourists of hazard areas and evacuation routes. The crew at CHMZ-FM will be broadcasting power outages in the near future.
